Oil analysis, what is so important?

Lubricants are the most critical component of equipment.

In current factory management, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) places comprehensive maintenance of production equipment as its core principle. It centers around existing equipment and production sites, aiming for maximum efficiency in the production system. Lubrication management is a crucial aspect of TPM.

Effective equipment management is rooted in proper lubricating oil management. Monitoring lubricating oils is key, and this is achieved through oil analysis. Just as routine blood tests provide insights into one’s health, oil analysis reveals the health condition of the lubricating oil.

Preventive Maintenance (PM) emphasizes proactive upkeep. In lubricating oil standards, at the very least, there should be comprehensive testing parameters.

How to do correct sampling?

Correct sampling is crucial, as it affects the accuracy of the analysis and the authenticity of the report.
➤ Ensure the oil sample is hot when taking it:
The oil sample should be a well-mixed homogeneous liquid (take the sample within 30 minutes after the equipment is shut down, and be cautious to avoid burns).
➤ Sample from a fixed location:
Sampling from different locations can yield slight variations. Consistent sampling from a fixed location aids in maintaining data integrity for future analysis.
➤ Pour into a clean, water-free container:
Oil analysis companies provide free containers and blank labels. Fill out the information accurately; this assists in tracking data integrity in the future.
➤ Seal the oil sample container securely: (PPM)
Testing and analysis results are based on parts per million (PPM). Therefore, when pouring the oil into the container, ensure proper sealing to prevent secondary contamination or cross-contamination that could impact the accuracy of data interpretation.

The report

➤ Typically, analysis reports are provided within 10 days of confirming receipt of the oil sample in the laboratory.
In case of any abnormal data, we will indicate it in the report and provide recommendations (not just data alone).

➤ It is advisable to analyze the original oil sample alongside for comparative analysis.
(Please provide technical data of the original oil sample to ensure accurate comparative analysis.)

➤ Please mail the oil samples that need testing to our company.
(The required sample quantity varies based on the type of oil; kindly inquire via phone or email for precise details.)

➤ The process, including shipping, takes approximately 20 business days.

The benefit of oil analysis

Oil analysis prices vary based on the specific analysis parameters.

Making oil sample analysis effortless for you. Each kit includes an empty oil sample container, a blank label, and a form. You just need to collect the sample correctly, fill out the label and form, and send it back to our Taoyuan office.

Compared to equipment costs, downtime, and consumable losses, oil analysis is a small investment. It provides equipment failure alerts and prevents losses due to emergency shutdowns.

➤ Oil Analysis
Oil analysis involves sampling and analyzing oil for various characteristics and material properties, revealing wear and contamination levels in engines, gearboxes, or hydraulic systems.
Oil analysis informs you about the condition of your equipment and the state of the oil. Any running machinery generates metal-to-metal contact, causing wear and oil degradation. Microscopic metal particles are suspended in the lubricant.

➤ Oil Analysis Frequency
Lubricants can get contaminated from external sources. Identifying and measuring these impurities reveals wear and contamination levels. Oil analysis also suggests ways to reduce wear and contamination. A typical analysis shows current contamination status and recommends a suitable lubricant.

➤ Incorrect Lubricant Usage
Some wear is normal. However, abnormal data often indicates impending equipment issues, preventing sudden breakdowns and enabling preparation and appropriate actions before damage occurs.
The key to oil analysis is being proactive, preparing, and avoiding last-minute shutdowns before issues arise.

You can monitor about:

  • Fuel Contamination in Oil
  • Impurity Contamination in Oil
  • Coolant Contamination in Oil
  • Bearing Excessive Wear Condition
  • Lubricant Usage Condition
